Barcelona requested to spend €18 million to sign the “best left-back in La Liga.”

Barcelona has been informed of the price tag associated with acquiring Javi Galan from Celta Vigo this summer. According to Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga club has notified the Catalans that they must meet the defender’s €18 million release clause price in order to sign him.

Galan joined Celta Vigo last summer after moving there from SD Huesca. The 27-year-old had a successful season with the Galician team and finished the 2021–2022 season as one of the top left-backs in La Liga.

Barcelona have had Galan on their radars for quite some time now, although they briefly moved on from their interest in him and set their sights on Marcos Alonso of Chelsea. However, talks with the Blues for the veteran left-back have gotten complicated.

It has led to the Blaugrana retraining their sights on a move for Galan. The 27-year-old would be easier to fit into the club’s wage bill due to his low salary.

However, as per the report, signing him would cost Barcelona a sum of €18 million, as Celta Vigo are keen on extracting the full amount of his release clause.

Barça are yet to make any formal offer for the Celta Vigo defender, but were said to be hoping to get the deal done for a fee of around €9 million.

However, with the Galician club holding out for his full release clause amount of €18 million, it could force the Blaugrana to reconsider a move for the 27-year-old and instead look at other options, with a move for Alonso still not completely off the table.

With only five days left before the transfer window closes, Barça will need to step up their plans and try to get the deals done over the line at the earliest possible.
