Sergio Reguilon, a defender for Tottenham Hotspur, has received an update from Fabrizio Romano.

The insider claimed on Twitter that the Spurs player’s loan transfer to Atletico Madrid was “imminent.”

Tottenham have struck an agreement for Reguilon to join Los Colchoneros on a simple loan deal with no buy option.

Romano then issued a further update later on in the afternoon.

He claimed that the contracts involving the Reguilon deal are being prepared with Atletico.

Reguilon – who joined from Atletico’s bitter rivals Real Madrid in 2020 – has become surplus to Antonio Conte’s requirements.

The full-back wasn’t in the Spurs squad for the pre-season trip to South Korea.

In addition, Conte has reportedly kept him out of the fold in Tottenham’s training sessions.

Reguilon had a strong first season in north London but has struggled since the Italian took charge of Spurs.

Conte has opted for a system that incorporates wing-backs, while Spaniard is more comfortable playing as a full-back.

Reguilon has been linked with a number of clubs in recent months, including Sevilla, Barcelona and Juventus.

Now, it looks as though Atletico have won the race for the 25-year-old’s services.

There were reports suggesting he was going to stay put at Spurs, but it’s not surprising that a suitor of Atletico’s calibre has now shown up.

That said, the lack of an option to buy means we may have not seen the last of Reguilon at Tottenham.
