According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool has already agreed to a permanent contract with Arthur Melo. He is currently on loan with the Reds.

This week, Fabrizio Romano moved to inform Liverpool fans about Arthur Melo. Of course, the Brazilian is on loan with the Reds until the end of the season.

“Liverpool will have €37.5m buy option clause for Arthur in June, not mandatory – LFC have negotiated with Juve the possibility of paying the clause in two years,” he wrote on Twitter.

Now, we know this is true. Juventus included these facts in their announcement of the deal on deadline day. Liverpool can pay that money over two years, should they decide to sign Arthur permanently.

More interesting is this:

“Arthur has already agreed on the potential, future contract in case LFC will trigger the clause.”

If Romano is right, then Liverpool knows that Arthur is theirs if they want him. They’ve taken the time to find terms on a contract and we could easily see him become a long-term player for the club.

Arthur agrees on Liverpool contract

There’s a long way to go, of course, but we’ve come some way on this. Initial reports suggested Liverpool didn’t have an option to buy Arthur. Now it turns out that they’ve agreed on a contract and simply need to trigger the clause.

We initially assumed that Liverpool was considering Arthur as a temporary, last-resort option. Just someone to keep them occupied until their big move next summer. That’s how it appeared at first.

But it’s clear that they think a lot of him. They wouldn’t bother to have gone through these negotiations on deadline day if not – this isn’t a loan done on a whim.

And Arthur has the talent to warrant a permanent transfer. On his day, he’s one of Europe’s best passers, and we’ll hopefully see that against Napoli this week.
