Here’s how we rated Tottenham’s performance in their 2-0 Champions League victory over Marseille at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Hugo Lloris

Very little to do early on but his decision to punch the ball rather than make a routine catch didn’t go down well inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Saved well from Matteo Guendouzi but had very little to do after that. 6

Cristian Romero

They Needed Emerson Royal to help him out early on after Nuno Tavares had burst past him but didn’t have much to do defensively on the whole. Pushed on a lot after the break to help the Spurs try and find the breakthrough. Replaced on 73 minutes. 6

Eric Dier

The only center-back to stay on the pitch for the full 90 minutes. Largely solid on the whole. 7

Clement Lenglet

The Frenchman kept his place in the starting XI but didn’t make quite the impact as he did last weekend. Subbed in the final 20 minutes as Ben Davies came on. 6

Emerson Royal

Received a huge ovation after tracking back and producing a fine tackle on Tavares in the first half just as the Arsenal loanee looked set to burst into the area. Defended well but struggled in the final third when in good positions. Brought off on the hour mark with Spurs needing to find a way through Marseille. 6

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Had a tough job on his hands in the first half with Marseille dominating possession. Got better as the game wore on and swung in a sublime cross for Richarlison to head home late on. 7

Rodrigo Bentancur

Saw more of the ball after the break with Marseille down to ten and tried to take control of proceedings and make things happen. Good shift from the Uruguayan. 7

Ivan Perisic

Back in the Tottenham team after dropping down to the bench against Fulham but initially didn’t have much of an impact down the left flank. However, he produced when it mattered most as he swung in a brilliant delivery for Richarlison to head in. 7

Richarlison

Named in the starting XI for the second successive game and teamed up well with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min early on. Didn’t have many opportunities on goal, to begin with, but made it count with two emphatic headers to help Spurs clinch three important Champions League points. 9

Harry Kane

Started the game extremely brightly and produced some fine flicks to team up with his fellow attackers. Saw a couple of efforts blocked and will feel he should have done better with the one he fired wide not long before the break. Played Son through which led to Chancel Mbemba’s red card. 7

Son Heung-min

Following a bright performance against Fulham, Son struggled in the first half but was then in the action as he was fouled by Mbemba which saw the Marseille man sent off. A frustrating night for the player. 6

Substitutes

Dejan Kulusevski (Emerson Royal, 61)

Introduced as a right wing-back with Spurs needing to find the breakthrough and made a difference right away as he looked to make things happen. 7

Japhet Tanganga (Cristian Romero, 73)

Replaced Romero at the back but didn’t have much to do defensively. 5

Ben Davies (Clement Lenglet, 73)

Entered the fray in place of Lenglet and produced a fine late block in stoppage time. 6

Yves Bissouma (Rodrigo Bentancur, 86)

On for the final few minutes to help see out the game. N/A

Matt Doherty (Son Heung-min, 86)

A late appearance for the Republic of Ireland international. N/A
