Fichajes claims that Manchester United is keeping an eye on Frenkie de Jong’s status and will pursue him again in the summer. The midfielder from Barcelona is available for the Red Devils to join for €80 million.

Frenkie de Jong remained Manchester United’s focal point of interest throughout the summer. But Erik ten Hag’s long pursuit of his former disciple ended in utter disappointment.

Manchester United brought in Christian Eriksen and Casemiro to tighten their midfield loopholes. But both of them offer a very different kind of qualities than the Barcelona midfielder. The lure of the UEFA Champions League held the player back at Camp Nou. But it kind of backfired as the Catalan giants are on the verge of getting demoted to the Europa League.

Their recent El Clasico loss to Real Madrid also has had severe effects on de Jong’s future plans, and he might have a change of heart next summer. Manchester United did reach an €85 million agreement with Barcelona this summer but failed to reach an agreement with the player.

There have been severe rumours as de Jong has been touted as the highest-paid player at Camp Nou. But the 25-year-old has called out the lies, although he is entitled to receive a large amount of his deferred salary.

Despite the arrival of two majestic midfielders that x-factor is still missing in Manchester United’s gameplay. And signing the former Ajax midfielder could resolve the situation, thus explaining the Red Devils’ interest. The report claims Manchester United could shell out in the region of €80 million to bring de Jong to England.

De Jong is a press-resisting midfielder with the ability to influence play with his astute passing. Additionally, his presence on the field will give the other midfielders greater flexibility to move around.

It is deemed hard to make a deal for the Barcelona midfielder in January. But because ten Hag is creating his own style of play, there will be enough money the next summer if Manchester United makes it to the Champions League. Watching to see if the Red Devils would get lucky the second time around will be fascinating.
