Five things we learned from Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur dropped three points in the Premier League this evening, falling to Newcastle United 2-1 at home.

Let’s go over the five things we learned from the game:

Errors at the back

Conte Tottenham built their game around solidity at the back and one or two goals upfront towards the end of last season. Unfortunately, there are errors creeping in at the back in almost every game now, perhaps due to the unfamiliarity with the 3-5-2 system. Today, Lloris should do a lot better for both goals and Lenglet had a horrible time of it down the left.

Skipp and Bissouma

Perhaps one of the silver linings for me today was the performance of Skipp and Bissouma. The former was full of running in attack and defense down the right and was a real asset at both ends of the pitch. The latter dictated Tottenham’s positive play in the pivot and arguably put in his best performance in a Spurs shirt yet.

Emerson at RCB

A small thing I noticed at the end of the match. With Romero missing and Sanchez was taken off, Emerson was moved to right-center-back for the final 10/15 minutes. A few Spurs fans have mentioned this as an idea for the Brazilian and I wonder if Conte could repeat it in the future.

Top four fight

I know Spurs fans want to fight for the title straight away but it feels like this season is going to be more of a battle for the top four. Tottenham is close to Chelsea and Man United on points now and a good season would definitely be cementing the top four while challenging for a trophy.

World Cup, anyone?

Let’s face it, the World Cup can’t come soon enough for the Spurs. They are in some poor form and a reset could be exactly what the doctor ordered right now.
