Manchester United and Tottenham are considering a €50 million bid for an Italian defender.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni.

Manchester United is considering a move for Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni, who is also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur, according to Inter Live. As their transition phase continues, the Red Devils will almost certainly bring in a defender.

Inter snatched Bastoni from the grasp of Parma in 2019 and the 23-year-old since then has held the fort with sheer precision. He is also regarded as the perfect successor to Leanardo Bonucci and with Italy not plying their trade in the World Cup he will have a seamless transition to the national team as it seems.

Italy is known as the land of defenders and Bastoni is carrying the legacy forward as the youngster has attracted a lot of attention with his defensive antics.

United manager Erik ten Hag brought in Lisandro Martinez from Ajax as Harry Maguire’s shaky form led to a big question mark over United’s future plans. Raphael Varane’s injury has now threatened to derail United’s momentum and to avoid further risk the Red Devils want an additional pair of feet in the squad.

Manchester United’s history with Italian players has not been really sweet as the likes of Matteo Darmian failed to keep up with the nature of the Premier League. But Bastoni could break the hoodoo as he was born to compete in the English top flight.

Inter’s financial condition is under severe threat and they might need to offload some of the players to get into the safe zone. A move In January feels pretty difficult but the player will enter the final year of his season next summer and the Italian side might have to lower their asking price in case they fail to agree to a new contract.

Antonio Conte had the experience of handling the player during his stint at Inter and a move to Spurs will be best suited for him. The player is well acquainted with Conte’s demands and will thrive under pressure in the Premier League.

Clement Lenglet will be back in Barcelona after his loan stint ends leaving Conte with a big gap to fill in and Bastoni could be the man for the North London club.

Inter has slapped a 50 million price tag on the player but there would be serious negotiations over his fee. Both United and Spurs will likely go head to head for his service and it remains to be seen who emerges as the winner.
