Tim Sherwood has questioned why Tottenham Hotspur’s Sons Heung-min and Harry Kane will sign new contracts if Antonio Conte does not extend his stay at the club, as he stated on Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (22/10/22 at 2:05 pm).

Tottenham’s current contract expires in less than a year, but the north London club can extend it if they wish – and why wouldn’t they give what he has done?

Nonetheless, after being back during the summer transfer window, many Tottenham fans will be hoping that their manager on the touchline secures a long-term contract soon rather than later.

If that happens, then it might just result in a ripple effect, with Kane also putting pen to paper.

The England captain, who is being linked with a move to German giants Bayern Munich, has a contract until 2024 – Spurs fans shouldn’t worry about Son too much because his deal will expire in 2025.

Nonetheless, Sherwood thinks if Conte doesn’t win a trophy in north London this season, then he will leave, as he referenced those in Italy wanting him back.

“Let’s face it, he (Conte) only has until the end of the season,” said Sherwood. “I mean he’s not signed a new contract. You are asking Harry Kane and Son to extend their contracts, why would you extend your contract?

“If you believe in this manager if your manager is going to be there until the end of the season. You have to make a decision on him, soon.

“There is speculation of him going back to Italy. He is lauded in Italy for the style of how he wants to play. This year he has to win, if he doesn’t win this year, then he will leave.”

In regards to the teams, the Spurs should be beating this season, they have done their job and worked their magic.

But when the tougher tests have arrived, they have fallen short, most recently away at Old Trafford, where they were not just beaten by Manchester United, but outplayed.

Conte is looking for that extra edge and he will want it in the transfer market. Over on the other side of north London, Mikel Arteta was backed big time for two summer transfer windows in a row.

Perhaps that’s what Conte needs, it’s just a case of those upstairs, i.e. Daniel Levy agreeing to it all.
