What Jude Bellingham said to Manchester City star Erling Haaland following the draw with Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund advanced to the next round of the Champions League after a 0-0 draw with Manchester City.

After Manchester City was held to a 0-0 draw at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday night, Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham admitted he shared a goal-themed joke with former teammate Erling Haaland.

Dortmund earned an admirable point thanks to Gregor Kobel’s second-half penalty save after City had already confirmed their place in the Champions League knockout stages.

The Blues struggled to find their rhythm on the night, with Pep Guardiola admitting that travel had a draining effect on his players. At halftime, the Spaniard also removed Haaland from the game.

And Bellingham, who scored alongside Haaland in the reverse fixture at the Etihad, revealed the details of his full-time conversation with the Norwegian.

“I said to him (Haaland) at the end of the game, ‘we’re 1-1 on goals,’ but I’m not too satisfied because I didn’t score either, but, of course, we got the draw, and that’s what we needed to carry us through this journey,” he told reporters.

Bellingham also highlighted the importance of keeping a clean sheet against a City side that is so often ruthless in its pursuit of goals.

“It’s good for us on that side of the game, defensively we were really good,” he explained. “Not many teams keep clean sheets against Manchester City, especially this season with all the quality they’ve got.

“To do that is really promising for us, I think we could’ve gone for it a little bit more but we can be grateful they missed a penalty and Greg made a huge save. There are different things to take from the game, we were here to qualify and we did that.”
