Chelsea decides to sign a striker for £87 million rather than Ivan Toney next year, according to reports.

Reports have claimed that Chelsea would rather sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen than Premier League star Ivan Toney.

According to 90min, the Nigerian international is top of the club’s wish list for an outright striker in a future transfer window.

The Serie A man is certainly firing on all cylinders this season. He has nine goals and two assists in 11 league matches, as his team sits top of the tree in Italy

He, alongside fellow Chelsea target Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, has been the standout player in the side that topped a Champions League group containing Premier League heavyweights Liverpool.

While supporters should feel excited that they are rumored to be attempting the signing of a player of Osimhen’s quality, some will perhaps be concerned that their scouts are not prioritizing a move to a player closer to home.

Chelsea prefers Osimhen to Toney

Despite not being picked for the England team by Gareth Southgate for the World Cup, Toney showed everyone his class again this weekend against Manchester City.

A brace for the Brentford man brought the Bees a sensational victory at the home of the champions, leaving many to jump to his praises.

This included Reece James, who hinted that the decision not to take him to the World Cup was a bit of an oversight, to say the least.

90min however has claimed that the Blues would prefer a move for Osimhen, who is continuing to push towards his best season yet for the Serie A side.

It has already been reported that the deal could cost approximately £87m to bring the 23-year-old to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea could certainly do with signing a striker in the next few transfer windows, with the goals drying up with the current crop of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Armando Borja not firing.
