According to Football London, Antonio Conte made a ‘late’ request to take his Tottenham squad on a warm-weather training trip during the World Cup break, but the Spurs board refused. They will remain in the United Kingdom.

On Saturday afternoon, the Spurs finished on a high note. Conte watched as his team came from behind three times to win 4-3. Rodrigo Bentancur scored two late goals in two minutes to give Spurs three points in the Capital.

The win sees Spurs go into the break in the top four, qualifying for the knockout rounds of the World Cup. Now, many of Tottenham’s squad will be in Qatar. Indeed, 11 of Conte’s current side will go, from Harry Kane to Pape Matar Sarr.

The remaining players, which include the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Moura, Clement Lenglet, and more, will remain at Hotspur Way. That is despite manager Conte asking the Spurs board to arrange a warm-weather training trip.

Plenty of Premier League clubs are going to the Middle East, to allow their World Cup players to return in similar conditions. But Conte’s request was late. The board has been unable to find anywhere with facilities like Hotspur Way.

The Spurs players will be given a break. Conte himself is returning to Italy, having missed his daughter’s 15th birthday. Spurs return after the World Cup break on Boxing Day, going across London to take on Brentford. Then, Aston Villa.
