Tottenham’s 22-year-old midfielder is set to benefit from the World Cup break, with a first-team opportunity on the horizon.

Tottenham is planning a number of friendly matches behind closed doors during the World Cup break, and Djed Spence is finally set to get his chance.

Spence has struggled for playing time since joining Middlesbrough for around £20 million in the summer. Despite starring on loan for Nottingham Forest, Spence has had few opportunities under Antonio Conte.

For Spence, it could be the ideal chance to show himself off. There is an acceptance among the Spurs fan base that Emerson Royal isn’t good enough. Spence, then, could be the player Tottenham fans want to see most post-World Cup.

Tottenham signed a number of players alongside Spence in the summer. However, the likes of Perisic, Richarlison, and Bissouma have all had more game time than the right-back.

TBR’s View: Spence needs clarity before January

Conte keeps saying Spence is one for the future but he must surely be getting annoyed watching Emerson play ahead of him each week.

The Brazilian is simply not the answer for the Spurs and Spence, for all his rawness, has a lot in the locker.

These games will be the ideal chance for Spence to showcase his talents. For Conte, he’ll be looking to see what Spence has learned on the job since signing. And if he can show the Tottenham coach he has done that, then PL minutes could be around the corner.
