When could Manchester City players play in the FIFA World Cup 2022?

This week, a large portion of Manchester City’s squad will compete in the FIFA World Cup.

The tournament kicks off on Sunday evening when Qatar takes on Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium.

As domestic football in Europe comes to a halt for over a month, 16 Manchester City players have been chosen to represent their countries in the Middle East.

The Sky Blues suffered a frustrating 2-1 loss to Brentford in their final Premier League match last weekend, as Ivan Toney scored twice at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s side returns to action in the Carabao Cup on Thursday 22nd December, when City host Liverpool in round four.

With the majority of the City squad competing at the World Cup, here is a guide to when Manchester City players could feature during the opening round of Group Stage fixtures.

Monday 21st November – Six Manchester City Players

Group B: England vs Iran (13:00 GMT) – Kyle Walker, John Stones, Kalvin Phillips, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish.

Group A: Senegal vs Netherlands (16:00 GMT) – Nathan Ake.

Tuesday 22nd November – One Manchester City Player

Group C: Argentina vs Saudi Arabia (10:00 GMT) – Julian Alvarez.

Wednesday 23rd November – Four Manchester City Players

Group E: Germany vs Japan (13:00 GMT) – Ilkay Gundogan.

Group E: Spain vs Costa Rica (16:00 GMT) – Aymeric Laporte and Rodri.

Group F: Belgium vs Canada (19:00 GMT) – Kevin De Bruyne

Thursday 24th November – Five Manchester City Players

Group G: Switzerland vs Cameroon (10:00 GMT) – Manuel Akanji

Group H: Portugal vs Ghana (16:00 GMT) – Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva.

Group G: Brazil vs Serbia (19:00 GMT) – Ederson.
