Khun Top and Leicester City are set to benefit from a January transfer windfall as a result of the World Cup decision.

The latest Leicester City news as the club has had seven of their players compete in the competition in Qatar, with just one remaining in the quarter-finals.

Leicester City is set to receive a seven-figure sum from FIFA, just weeks before the January transfer window opens.

It was announced by FIFA back in October that clubs would receive a sum for every player who participates in the ongoing World Cup in Qatar through the Clubs Benefits Programme. The payment is made based on how long a player is involved in the tournament with sides receiving a fee of around £8,202 for every day that the player is away from the club, including official preparation days.

It is however stated by FIFA that “the compensation will be paid to all clubs for which the footballer has played in the two years prior to the FIFA World Cup 2022.” That is something that will impact the payment City receives for summer signing Wout Faes.

The defender was one of three City players to be included in the Belgium squad for the tournament, alongside Youri Tielemans and Timothy Castagne. The Red Devils had a disappointing competition and were one of the shock exits on the group stage.

A total of 18 days at the competition will see City receive around 147,636 pounds each for both Tielemans and Castagne, while the same amount for Faes will be split with Reims, meaning City will get around 73,818 pounds.

Goalkeeper Danny Ward was another of the City’s participants to exit at the group stage with Wales. His 16 days at the competition will earn City around 131,232 pounds

A fifth City player who exited last week was Daniel Amartey with Ghana. The center-back spent a total of 19 days in the tournament, meaning that City will get around 155,838 pounds.

Two players did make it to the knockout stages, with Papy Mendy’s Senegal facing James Maddison’s England in the round of 16 stages last weekend. A 3-0 win for the Three Lions saw Mendy knocked out of the tournament.

The midfielder’s 21 days will see City get around 172,242 pounds from FIFA’s Clubs Benefits Programme. England’s success in the game means that the total keeps growing for Maddison.

At the time of writing, the City midfielder has been on international duty for 24 days. By the time England takes on France, he will have been in the competition for 26 days, which means City will be due at least £213,252 for Maddison’s participation.

Should he and England reach the final, that total will rise to £287,070.

For all of the player’s participation in the competition, City will earn at least £1,068,654. It’s a figure that could come in very handy for Brendan Rodgers just a few weeks ahead of the January transfer window.
