Lionel Messi has told Tottenham Hotspur-owned Giovani Lo Celso ‘we are remembering you every day, with the midfielder currently not at the Qatar World Cup with Argentina because of injury.
The footballing legend was speaking to Sergio Aguero during one of his live streams and Messi thanked the former Manchester City star and his nation for their support, as Argentina tried to secure World Cup glory for the first time since 1986.
That’s when a certain Diego Maradona was showcasing his footballing powers and now Messi is trying to produce the greatest-ever moment in his glittering, goal-crazy, trophy-laden, and heart-stopping career.
At Copa America, they proved their worth and Lo Celso played a huge part in that success, but a muscle injury meant the £27 million Spurs signing (BBC Sport) couldn’t be in the Middle East to perhaps live the most incredible weeks of his career.
But whilst the 26-year-old, who is on loan at Villarreal, can’t be on the field of play, he is in the hearts of his teammates, as Messi had this message for his fellow countryman from Aguero’s live stream.
“Thank you for calling us,” said Messi. “We love you. You are not here with us, but we’re remembering you every day, you and Gio (Lo Celso). I want to greet all the people who watched us, bye.”
CAN ARGENTINA GO ALL THE WAY?
It’s the test of Louis van Gaal’s no-nonsense Netherlands side up next for Messi and Co, who could meet their arch-rivals Brazil in the last four.
Before a ball was kicked in the Middle East, many backed Argentina to go all the way and secure glory, then they were landed a sucker punch by Saudi Arabia in their opening game.
Whilst that was a huge scare for the South American giants, as the games tick by, they are getting better, that nervousness is going out of their play and Messi is seriously starting to motor on football’s biggest stage.
