Shock Leicester City transfer claim made as defender eyes January exit

The latest Leicester City transfer news is that the defender will have only six months left on his contract when the January transfer window opens in a few weeks.

According to reports in Italy, Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu could leave the club for free in January.

This season, the defender has fallen down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium, with Jonny Evans, Wout Faes, and Daniel Amartey all ahead of him when Brendan Rodgers chooses his starting lineups. This means that the Turkish international has only made one Premier League appearance this season.

Soyuncu will have just six months remaining on his contract with City when the January transfer window opens, making it likely that the defender will move on. Despite there only being a short time left on his deal, City could still demand a fee for the player should they sell in January.

However, it seems that may not be the case. According to fcInterNews, Soyuncu has been offered to Inter Milan a free transfer, although it is not clear if a move would be in January or in the summer. The report does say that the defender is ‘eager for a change of scenery as he eyes a move away from the King Power Stadium.

A January transfer could happen should Inter lose either or both Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij in the window. Both center-backs have been linked with moves away from the club, meaning that Inter would have to bring in a replacement.

Soyuncu has been with City since signing from the German side Freiburg in the summer of 2018. The 26-year-old has played a total of 125 times for the club over the last four-and-a-half years.

He wasn’t included in the squad who took part in a training camp in Abu Dhabi last week due to injury. The center-back missed the Premier League games against Everton and West Ham United due to a hamstring issue.
