Report: Boehly desperate to lure £26m World Cup man to Chelsea, but Tottenham winning race

Italian outlet CM claims Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is keen on increasing the American link at Stamford Bridge and wants to bring in Juventus star Weston McKennie next month – but faces competition from Tottenham and Dortmund.

McKennie, 24, will be enjoying a well-deserved rest after playing a crucial part in the USA’s side that reached the last 16 of the World Cup. He formed a brilliant midfield three alongside Leeds star Tyler Adams, and Valencia’s Yunus Musah.

Tottenham has been strongly linked with McKennie over the past 12 months. Indeed, Fabio Paratici – Tottenham’s sporting director – signed him for Juventus. Initially, on loan from Schalke in 2020, it became permanent in 2021.

He has gone on to clock up 91 appearances for Juventus, impressing in Turin. But, he is likely to be allowed to go in January, if the price is right. Juventus want a fee of £ 26 million, at least. Dortmund is in talks to land the midfielder.

However, Boehly wants to add to the American contingent at Chelsea. Christian Pulisic remains, and Gabriel Slonina was signed in the summer. They want to add McKennie next month – but will face competition from Tottenham, too.

CHELSEA KEEN ON MCKENZIE BUT FACES COMPETITION FROM TOTTENHAM

Tuttosport reported this week that Tottenham is not only interested in McKennie, but is actually leading the race to get the midfielder. So, while Chelsea might be interested, they will have to work hard to tempt him to West London.

The spurs have numerous links to McKennie. It would see him reunite with Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski. Plus, Paratici has signed him before and can do it again. But, Boehly is ruthless and has shown so in the transfer market.

It will be interesting to see where McKennie wants to go. Dortmund stands a chance too, as they perhaps, look to bring in a replacement for Jude Bellingham. McKennie may be tempted by a return to Germany. All to play for.
