Newcastle transfer rumours include the price tag for James Maddison and Joao Felix claim

Newcastle United’s latest transfer digest includes reports on Leicester City’s James Maddison and Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix.

Maddison price tag

Leicester City has placed a £60 million price tag on James Maddison in an attempt to ward off interest from Newcastle United. That is according to Football Insider, with recent reports indicating the Foxes playmaker remains the Magpie’s top target in the January window.

Newcastle failed with two summer bids for Maddison, who has entered the final two years of his contract at the King Power Stadium. The 26-year-old has started the season in fine form and earned his first international call-up to take his place in England’s World Cup squad.

The Magpies are not expected to replicate their approach to the last two transfer windows, due to Financial Fair Play concerns. The lofty price tag could lead Eddie Howe’s side to wait until the summer when Leicester may be more willing to do business considering Maddison’s contract status.

Felix claim

Attacking reinforcements are expected to be on the agenda, with wide players such as Marcus Thuram and Leandro Trossard recently linked. Newcastle has now been named as one of six clubs in contention to sign Joao Felix.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo has namechecked the Magpies as a potential destination for Portugal forward, who could be set to leave Atletico Madrid. Felix was named the club’s player of the year for last season, but reports continue to link the 23-year-old with a move away from the Spanish capital.

The claim is backed up by Football Transfers, but the Portugal international is said to favor a move to Manchester United. Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester City, and PSG have also been linked.
