Ruud Gullit can’t understand why former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has been mentioned as a possibility to become England’s next manager.

The Dutch legend stated ‘this guy doesn’t win anything, other than his days at PSG, with his previous jobs being at Spurs, Southampton, and Espanyol.

Whilst Spurs played the pretty stuff under their popular coach, they didn’t cross that trophy line, with a visit to the final of the Champions League being the club’s best achievement under his stewardship.

The 50-year-old is currently out-of-work, and with pressure on Gareth Southgate after England’s World Cup quarter-final exit, names are being thrown about as possible replacements.

But whilst Pochettino is very much liked in north London for the job he did, he doesn’t have a fan in Gullit, as he told beIN SPORTS (10/12/22 at 9:25 pm).

“Come on, Poch?!” said Gullit. “I don’t know, this guy doesn’t win a lot.

“Now with Paris, but before nothing. All the time, his name is always involved everywhere and I don’t get it, why?!

“If you are England, then you want the best of the best and someone who is used to winning.”

From the FA’s perspective, they would want Southgate to stay on, that’s why he signed a new contract in November, which runs until Euro 2024.

But the opinion of fans is divided – ask ten across the street and they want him out, go further down and another ten would keep him on.

It does seem as though if Gareth leaves, then he will step down on his own accord, which would throw someone like Pochettino’s name into the hat.

That’s if he’s not in a job by then, he did recently turn down the Aston Villa job, with rumors suggesting that he is keen on the England gig, so it will be interesting to see his next move.
