Eddie Howe was overjoyed in Riyadh by the quiet return of a Newcastle United winger to the big stage.

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is keen to see what the former Bournemouth star can bring to table

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe was left delighted with the contributions of Ryan Fraser after an excellent week of training in Saudi Arabia.

The Scotland winger comes into contention against his old club AFC Bournemouth in the League Cup’s last 16 clashes on December 20 after getting minutes in his legs in the 5-0 win over Al-Hilal. Fraser had not featured for Newcastle since the 1-0 win over Everton back in October.

But he came on for the last half an hour in Saudi Arabia and provided an assist for young Dylan Stephenson. Fraser will top up his minutes at the weekend against Rayo Vallecano this weekend.

Fraser had suffered from groin problems earlier in the season but is now aiming to get back to full speed and challenge for a place in Howe’s three-pronged attack. The winger still has two years left on his contract and Howe is eager to get him back up and running for Newcastle.

Fraser was instrumental at the start of United’s revival in 2022 when he put in a string of fine performances last spring. Howe is keen to assess the wide man’s performance in the next month.
