Newcastle’s ‘amazing’ target now wants to leave next month, which could cost £30 million.

Newcastle United could have a chance to sign Mohammed Kudus in January, with the midfielder keen to leave Ajax.

That is according to the Athletic, who state that the 22-year-old has a ‘firm desire’ to find a new club. His priority is joining a Premier League club – specifically one that will play him in midfield.

That could mean Newcastle is in luck, as it has been reported that Eddie Howe is targeting a new midfielder. And the Magpies have also been linked with Kudus.

The Ghanaian has been one of the stars of the World Cup, and his performances attracted attention from all over. 90min claimed that Newcastle has been one of many clubs to ask about Kudus, having targeted him in the past.

Kudus has plenty of suitors following his exploits with Ghana, but his efforts failed to get them through the group stage. However, he did impress Kevin Prince Boateng, who called Kudus ‘amazing‘ and branded him as one of the players of the tournament.

His World Cup is over now, but it could be set to inspire a transfer in 2023.

How much it could cost if Kudus gets what he wants and leaves Ajax next month

If Newcastle is to sign Kudus in January, the Athletic have an indication of how much he might cost. They claim that the minimum Ajax would want is between £ 30 million and £ 34.4 million.

Given how good he looked in Qatar, that sounds like a reasonable fee for Kudus. However, Ajax will surely hope for even more money given his World Cup exploits.

They also have the luxury of him being tied down to a contract until 2025.

Would be a great signing for Newcastle

Howe’s side has been linked with Kudus, and they are reportedly keen to sign a midfielder. The Athletic recently stated that Howe wants a right-back, midfielder, and wide forward in January.

Kudus would certainly fulfill the midfielder role – although it perhaps wouldn’t align with the Magpies’ desire to sign a new ‘number six’.

Newcastle is reportedly looking to bring in someone who can play at the base of midfield. But Kudus is a more attacking player and has even been playing as a ‘false nine’ for Ajax.

Regardless, he would be a great addition to Newcastle. And if he is available for £ 30 million, he could be a cheaper alternative to James Maddison.
