Erling Haaland’s favorite record-breaking striker is wanted by Newcastle.

Newcastle United is reportedly interested in signing Youssoufa Moukoko from Borussia Dortmund.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who believe that the Magpies have joined the race to snap up the talented teenager.

Moukoko could soon be a man in demand, with his contract at Dortmund expiring in the summer. That has led to interest from Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United – and now Newcastle.

He has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but they now look set to sign David Fofana from Molde, which could end their pursuit of the Germany international.

That could open the door for someone like Newcastle to land the 18-year-old – a record-breaking striker who has received major praise from former teammate Erling Haaland.

While it was a World Cup to forget for Germany, Moukoko made his own piece of history in Qatar. The youngster came off the bench in the defeat to Japan and became the youngest German to ever play at a World Cup at the age of 18 years and three days.

And this wasn’t the first time Moukoko has made history thanks to his age. In 2020, he became the youngest player in Bundesliga history when he came on as a substitute against Hertha Berlin at the age of 16 years and 28 days.

The forward has various other age-related honors, and it has also led to praise from Manchester City’s number nine.

Haaland played alongside Moukoko at Dortmund and had high praise for the teenager back in 2020.

“Moukoko is much better than I was at his age,” Haaland told the Bundesliga’s official website.

“I have never seen such a good 15-year-old in my life.”

Coming from someone like Haaland, that speaks volumes about Moukoko’s ability. But could we soon see that ability on Tyneside?

Newcastle is looking for young players to build the future of the club around, and Moukoko, who has six Bundesliga goals this season, fits that brief at 18. He could become part of the furniture and even form a future partnership with Garang Kuol, who is also tipped to become a star.

It would be a real statement of intent if Newcastle landed Moukoko, but we face serious competition for his signature – particularly from clubs who would be more willing to put big money on the table for someone so young.
