Gary Neville shares what he has been told by a Manchester City insider about Julian Alvarez and Gabriel Jesus.
The city sold Jesus to Arsenal and Raheem Sterling to Chelsea last summer, signing Alvarez and Erling Haaland to replace them.
Haaland has grabbed the headlines in the Premier League but Alvarez is the man who will lead the line for Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday.
On his podcast, Neville shares what he was told at the time about the decisions City made with their attack during the summer.

He said: “I was told a year ago when City let Jesus and Sterling go – because I was quite surprised that City let both go at the same time – that this kid (Alvarez) was the reason.
“Someone said that to me, that is quite close to City, that he was the reason and they didn’t want to block his path.”
Alvarez could now return to City as a World Cup winner, having had a very different experience of the tournament in Qatar to Jesus.
He only got one start for Brazil, in their dead rubber against Cameroon, and picked up an injury that needs surgery and will keep him out for months.
That has connotations for Arsenal’s title bid, with Eddie Nketiah now being trusted to spearhead their title bid against City.
At City, Haaland is the first choice but if something happened to him for any length of time, they could bring in Alvarez and on the evidence of the World Cup, he would not be a bad deputy whatsoever.
