Latest Leicester City transfer news as Inter Milan is knocked back in the race to sign Moroccan World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi

Leicester City is leading Inter Milan in the race to sign Morocco star Azzedine Ounahi.

The 22-year-old caught the eye with his performances at the World Cup this winter, helping his country to a semi-final with wins against Belgium, Spain, and Portugal along the way.

The city has been linked with a € 45 million interest in the midfielder, who could arrive in the January transfer window, especially if the likes of Youri Tielemans and Dennis Praet move on to pastures new. He has been in good form since breaking into the Angers side over the last 18 months and has shown his ability on the world stage in Qatar.

According to the Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, Inter Milan made an approach to Anger for the midfielder. They were knocked back, though, with the French club telling them about Leicester’s interest in the player.

That has made “the road impractical” for any other clubs to come in and sign him, they say, putting Leicester in pole position for the transfer. A host of European clubs will likely be interested in signing him after an impressive major tournament, but Leicester’s hand looks strong.

It looks set to be a busy January for City, with a number of players linked with moves away. Seven stars are out of contract in the summer, so they could leave this winter in order for the club to avoid losing them for free.
