One of the best prospects in world football is a player Liverpool only paid £17 million for.

Former Liverpool youngster Neco Williams has been selected by HUNDRED in their watchlist for the most exciting young players in world football.

The 21-year-old has been included in the highly coveted list for 2023, having impressed for club and country this year.

Back over the summer, the Reds agreed a £17m deal for the Welshman to transfer to newly promoted Nottingham Forest.

Having joined the Merseyside outfit at under-9s level, this put an end to Williams’ 12-year stint at Liverpool. The youngster made 33 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s first-team.

Since making the switch to Forest, Williams has impressed in the English top-flight. Thus far this season, the right-back has played 15 Premier League matches. He has been ranked as the side’s third-best player – first if you exclude players who have played seven or less games.

As per Who Scored, the youngster has impressively averaged 2.9 tackles, 1.7 interceptions and 1.7 long balls per game.

At just 21-years-old, the full-back has already made 26 appearances for Wales. This even includes all three group games at the World Cup in Qatar.

With such evident talent, it would have been a tough decision to make having to let Williams go.

However, playing in the same position as Trent Alexander-Arnold, regular game-time was never going to be guaranteed.

For the good of his career, the youngster made the correct decision by leaving Anfield.
