Man City is serious about signing the $132.6 million “diamond” in January, according to a report.

Rafael Leao’s father allegedly spoke with Manchester City about his son’s prospective transfer from AC Milan during the January transfer window.

City defeated Leeds United 3-1 on Wednesday night to return to winning ways in the Premier League.

Nevertheless, the outcome still puts them five points behind league leaders Arsenal, and Pep Guardiola could seek for an additional forward bolster in January to assist his team catch up to Mikel  Arteta’s  group.

According to the Italian news site Tuttomercatoweb, City have ‘major connections’ with Leao’s father over a prospective move to the Etihad Stadium and are’ serious’ about recruiting him.

Milan has offered him a contract renewal at the San Siro for €7 million (£6.2 million), but City wants to give him a much bigger deal worth €12 million (£10.6 million) annually.

Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva leave rumors have surfaced, thus City should want to sign Leao as a long-term acquisition rather than simply for this season.

The winger, dubbed a “diamond” by Milan veteran Paolo Maldini, has contributed to 16 goals so far this season and has 34 goals and 30 assists in 135 appearances for the Serie A giants (Transfermarkt).

The Portugal international would be destined to prosper in the Premier League and has a similar playing style to Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur, Mohamed Salah, and Luis Diaz of Liverpool. However, City may have to spend close to his €150m (£132.6m) release clause to recruit him.

Leao, who is only 23 years old, has the potential to be a pillar of the side for the ensuing ten years.
