Media Foot claim Carlo Ancelotti is weighing up a surprise move to raid Liverpool for Ibrahima Konate and bring him to Real Madrid for 2023-24 – with the report claiming Real Madrid have ‘launched an operation behind the scenes’.

Konate, 23, has endured an up-and-down spell at Liverpool so far. While he has really excelled when given the chance, injuries have really hampered his progress. Indeed, Konate has only played 33 times for Liverpool in all competitions.

He has now been at the club for 18 months. When fit, you would argue that he is probably first choice with Virgil van Dijk. But he has only played four times for the Reds this season, due to injury. He was on the bench against Leicester.

Ex-Everton boss Ancelotti has seen enough. He is keen to bring Konate to Madrid, with his side likely to be after a centre-back having lost Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane recently. An operation is ongoing behind the scenes.

The report claims Madrid has two strong arguments in their favour to pull off a surprise move for the £36m defender. The first is Madrid can attract anyone, and the second is that Madrid have more money to spend than anyone.

As stated, Madrid need a centre-back. The report claims Madrid have cash to spend and that makes sense – their outlay in recent seasons has not been enormous. Barcelona have spent big and are now suffering the consequences.

But Madrid have been careful, well managed, and are now in a position to bring in plenty of new talent. Konate could be at the top of that list. Madrid already boast numerous French players and Konate would fit the dynamic well.

Whether Karim Benzema is there, or not, remains to be seen next season. But, they will have Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and possibly, Kylian Mbappe. So, Konate will surely be tempted if Madrid come calling.
