Carragher and Neville both believe that Liverpool’s player is the “best in the world.”

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville were in full agreement about Alisson as they picked their Team of the Year for 2022.

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville teamed up to pick their Team of the Year this week. The pair did so using those nominated by FIFA 23 and were in agreement about a good few players.

One of those was Alisson Becker. Both Carragher and Neville named him as the goalkeeper for their respective XIs, with the latter explaining why.

“Yes, Alisson,” Neville told Sky Sports. “Obviously, his performances for Liverpool – I think he’s been the best in the world.

“I think the World Cup might have just shed a little bit of doubt on that if people had any doubt and wanted to pick another.

“But for me, he still remains the best goalkeeper I see in world football at this moment in time.”

“Yeah, I’m exactly the same and want to reiterate what Gary’s just mentioned,” added Carragher.

We’d agree with that, too. Alisson was our Player of the Year, too, after 2022 where he was really the only Liverpool player to show genuine elite consistency. We wouldn’t swap him for anyone, certainly.

Carragher and Neville agree on Alisson

Alisson was the only Liverpool player in either XI – though he shouldn’t have been. Neville admits he wanted to pick Andy Robertson at left-back, only to find he wasn’t even an option.

That’s quite bizarre, we’d argue. Robertson had a fantastic calendar year, with Liverpool coming to a couple of goals away from winning every trophy. The Scot has also been one of the few to offer his best over the latter part of 2022.

Outside of those two, we can understand the Reds’ absence. Mohamed Salah wasn’t at his best in the final months of last season, and almost everyone else has fallen off a cliff this season.

Liverpool, on the other hand, has someone who can and does claim to be the best in the world in Alisson.
