A new Leicester City trade twist has emerged with the disclosure of Nico Gonzalez’s contract clause.

Fiorentina winger Nico Gonzalez is apparently stalling on a condition in his new deal, according to the latest Leicester City transfer news.

There are conflicting reports over whether Fiorentina winger Nico Gonzalez has agreed on personal terms yesterday.

It was claimed yesterday that a contract had been agreed between City and Gonzalez, but it’s now said that isn’t the case – because of a clause Leicester is trying to insert into his deal.

The 24-year-old right-winger would tick a huge box in the January transfer window for Brendan Rodgers, who has made no secret of his desire to add to that position. After being linked with the likes of Noni Madueke, Brennan Johnson, and Cody Gakpo in the summer, no wingers arrived at the club.

But Rodgers may now be getting his man, though a deal for Gonzalez is far from complete, with reports that City’s first bid for the Argentine has been rejected by Fiorentina. Even if they agree on a fee with his club, personal terms might not quite be as straightforward as first thought.

According to Football Italia, Gonzalez is facing a small stumbling block as Leicester want to insert a clause into his contract which would see the club lower his wages if they were to be relegated from the Premier League.

While some may claim that Leicester’s action is pessimistic, others believe that it is a prudent business practice as they prepare for any hazards. Getting Gonzalez to agree to the terms may be difficult, but that remains to be seen.

The wage offered by Leicester is claimed to be “not a hurdle,” and the only doubts are over the relegation clause and Gonzalez’s decision to move to Filbert Way.
