Manchester United may be forced to leave Old Trafford as part of a £2 billion stadium plan.

Manchester United have been given two options for redeveloping their stadium: continue with Old Trafford’s upgrade plans or move to a completely new stadium.

Manchester United may be forced to leave Old Trafford as part of plans to construct a new £2 billion stadium.

Red Devils fans have been outraged in recent years by the club’s Glazer ownership’s neglect of their iconic stadium. When compared to some of Europe’s other elite teams’ stadiums, the Theatre of Dreams is severely outdated and in desperate need of a major renovation.

The Glazers, who put the club up for sale in November, have finally hired consultants Legends International and Populous to help them develop stadium plans. According to the Daily Mail, United has been given two options.

The most drastic option is to build a new £2 billion stadium, allowing United to continue playing home games at Old Trafford while a modern, cutting-edge stadium is constructed.

This would increase their stadium capacity from 74,000 to 80,000. On matchdays, the club is said to be more concerned with modernizing and expanding its lucrative corporate hospitality facilities.

A new stadium would also cost United £1 billion more than the second option, which would be to simply upgrade Old Trafford, the club’s home for the past 112 years.
