Leicester City has suffered another ACL injury, leaving the midfielder ‘devastated.’

Ethan Fitzhugh has been a regular for the club’s Under-21s this season, but scans have shown the injury he suffered against Arsenal last week will keep him out for some time

Leicester City’s development squad has been hit with another ACL tear after midfielder Ethan Fitzhugh confirmed the severity of his injury.

Fitzhugh was substituted 16 minutes into the Under-21s’ 2-1 defeat to Arsenal last week and scans have revealed the bad news. It’s yet another injury blow for City’s development squad, with attacking midfielder Will Alves also suffering the same injury at the end of last month.

Writing on Instagram, Fitzhugh said: “Tough one to take today. Got the results back from my scan earlier and I’m devastated to find out I’ve torn my ACL. I know I will be out for a while but I will do anything and everything I can to get back stronger and fitter than before.”

The 20-year-old has been a regular for Ben Petty’s side this season, playing 14 of their 19 fixtures across all competitions, usually from the right wing. He featured for Brendan Rodgers’ senior side in pre-season as a 16-year-old, while he was on the bench for the 4-0 home win over Braga in the Europa League a couple of seasons ago.

City’s Under-21s were 1-0 up against Arsenal at the time of Fitzhugh’s injury, with Wanya Marcal-Madivadua scoring on his second start after a three-month lay-off. But a second-half equalizer for the Gunners was followed by an 85th-minute winner, consigning City to defeat.

They are now 12 games without a win across all competitions, a run that goes back to September. Their nine points from 13 games put them in the relegation zone of the Premier League 2 table at the halfway stage.
