Pep Guardiola is about to get a new midfielder after City agreed to a €9.3 million deal with Vélez Sarsfield.

According to Cesar Luis Merlo, the 20-year-old will travel to England following the conclusion of the Sudamericano Sub-20 competition to complete his medical and sign his Manchester City contract.

Perrone has been chosen to represent Argentina’s U20s in the Sudamericano Sub-20, a CONMEBOL U20s international tournament that begins this month.

Argentina’s first group game is against Paraguay on Saturday, January 21st, followed by matches against Brazil, Peru, and Columbia.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola had contacted Javier Mascherano to discuss the midfielder.

Perrone’s future with the City first team remains unknown, despite suggestions that the 20-year-old join Guardiola’s squad immediately, and a loan move has been suggested.

The city is expected to look to bolster their midfield over the course of the next year, with Ilkay Gundogan out of contract in the summer and Bernardo Silva having once spoken openly about possibly leaving the Etihad Stadium.

The Sky Blues have had success signing players from South America during the January transfer window in the past, adding former River Plate forward Julian Alvarez last year.

Alvarez, who has scored eight goals for City since his arrival in July, also helped Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar last month.
