Anthony Gordon took to Instagram to thank Frank Lampard after his Everton sacking as Newcastle United continues to be linked with a move

Newcastle United target Anthony Gordon has bid an emotional farewell to former Everton boss Frank Lampard after he and his backroom staff were sacked on Monday. The Toffees are languishing in the Premier League relegation zone and are on the hunt for a new manager to take the reins at Goodison Park.

Gordon is also expected to leave Merseyside this month with Newcastle at the front of the queue for his signature. Chronicle Live understands Lampard’s Everton exit is unlikely to prevent the sale of Gordon – IF the price is right on the 21-year-old.

The attacker has been left out in the cold in recent weeks, last featuring for Everton on Boxing Day. However, Gordon still wanted to put his thanks to Lampard on record.

“To the gaffer and his staff, thank you for everything,” he wrote on Instagram. “I had a personal relationship with every one of you and it was a pleasure to learn from you all.

“I appreciate all the time you put into helping me grow as a player and a person. Good luck.”

Paul Tait and Leighton Baines have been appointed as caretaker managers at Goodison Park, but they will not be able to make transfers this month. Gordon is expected to be released despite Everton’s refusal to sell him at the start of the season.

Both Lampard and Eddie Howe have refused to comment on recent transfer rumors, but talks have taken place between the two clubs.

Newcastle sees Gordon as the ideal type of player for both the short and long term, and their interest in him has grown in recent weeks. The teenager is said to want to move to Tyneside.
