“Negotiations”: Leicester City transfer insider provides an update on a “special” £17.5m target.

Leicester City has held talks with intermediaries about a potential January deal for Lyon winger Tete, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

After a disappointing first half of the season at the King Power Stadium, Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City appear to be interested in the Brazilian.

Tete has left Leicester City.
According to The Daily Mail, Tete wants to move to the Premier League this month, and Leicester is one of the clubs interested in him.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Lyon and has had a good season, scoring six goals in 17 Ligue 1 appearance.

Nonetheless, it is unclear whether the French club will exercise its £17.5m option to permanently sign the South American.

According to the Daily Mail, he could leave Lyon this month if an agreement can be reached with both Lyon and his parent club.

Leicester is reportedly interested, but they will face competition from Everton and Nottingham Forest, and staying at Lyon should not be ruled out.

What did Dean Jones have to say about Tete and Leicester City?
Jones told GiveMeSport that Leicester had made contact with intermediaries to determine Tete’s plans for the January transfer window.

“There have been negotiations through intermediaries on this one, to try and work on a strategy and figure out where Tete might go – also for how much, exactly,” the transfer insider told GMS. We saw with Mudryk that Shakhtar understands the value of a player and is adamant about things going their way. Obviously, this transfer does not meet that standard.”

Why is Leicester City interested in Tete?
Tete is unquestionably a gifted player. Former Lyon manager Peter Bosz described Tete as a “special player” who would normally be out of the club’s reach when he signed for the club in March as a result of the situation in Ukraine.

It also says a lot that he was invited to train with Brazil’s first team as an 18-year-old, despite the fact that he has yet to earn his first senior cap.

Tete has a solid record for Shakhtar, with 31 goals and 15 assists in 108 appearances, including strikes and setups in the Europa League and Champions League, and has now demonstrated that he can produce at a similar level in a more competitive top flight.

At the same time, Tete’s usual right-wing position has been a source of contention at Leicester for some time.

When Harvey Barnes is available, he is an automatic starter on the left, but James Maddison, Denis Praet, Ayoze Perez, and Marc Albrighton have all played there this season, with only the latter being primarily a wide player.

Tete could solve that problem while also giving Leicester a much-needed boost for the rest of the season – they are currently one point above the relegation zone.
