Newcastle United transfer news: Chelsea’s preference for Conor Gallagher and an update on Sander Berge

Newcastle United transfer rumors for the 31st of January.

Gallagher is a Palace favorite.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea would prefer Conor Gallagher to join Crystal Palace. This season, Newcastle is directly competing with Chelsea for a place in Europe. Everton has also been linked with a £45 million bid for the midfielder since Sean Dyche took over at Goodison Park.

The Magpies are said to be keeping an eye on the situation of several Chelsea players. Outgoings are expected on deadline day due to Stamford Bridge’s bloated squad.

Graham Potter has added Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, and Benoit Badiashille to his team just this month. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also rumored to be on his way to St James’ Park.

Only loan transactions

According to football insider Graeme Bailey, the Toon bosses will not consider another big-money move. Eddie Howe is short on midfield options, but any new arrivals, if true, will only be for the rest of the season.

“We’ve known they are looking for another midfielder,” he told the Loaded Mag YouTube channel. “From what I’m told, it’ll likely be a loan. They’ve done the Gordon deal.

“It seems highly unlikely that they’re going to pay big money (again). Not that they can’t, but just with FFP, etc, it’s looking very, very difficult to fit that in.”

Berge representatives in London

Sander Berge’s representatives are in London to discuss a possible transfer from Sheffield United. Reports have linked the Magpies with a move for the 24-year-old in recent days.

Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom confirmed his FA Cup absence was due to Bramall Lane chiefs discussing a possible transfer for their talisman. He said after the 3-3 draw with Wrexham: “He’s not here because we have been asked not to use him,” he revealed following today’s 3-3 draw at the Racecourse Ground. “Our club is speaking to other clubs regarding him.

“It doesn’t mean he is going anywhere, Sander is happy here. But the situation we find ourselves in is mid-takeover, transfer embargo, no clarity on which way it is going, and financial issues. One way to resolve the issues is to sell a player. Everyone knows my thoughts on it.”

A host of Premier League clubs are thought to be interested, with Fulham in pole position.
