Manchester United may be able to solve Christian Eriksen’s problem with an unexpected deadline day transfer.

Youri Tielemans is a free agent this summer, but Manchester United would be wise to sign the Leicester City midfielder before the January transfer deadline.

Christian Eriksen has become a key part of Erik ten Hag’s squad since he arrived at Old Trafford in the summer.

The midfielder is often tasked with picking the ball up from the defense and playing it forward to start attacks. This was likely the role envisioned for Frenkie de Jong if he moved to Manchester United last summer, but after a transfer never materialized, Eriksen has taken up the mantle.

However, Eriksen was left injured after a bad challenge from Andy Carroll in United’s Carabao Cup clashes against Reading. The Danish midfielder was pictured on crutches after the game and there are question marks over when he may be available again.

United will likely replace Eriksen from within for now. Fred has been an effective deputy for the 30-year-old this season and will likely fill in while he is injured the club also have Kobbie Mainoo and Zidane Iqbal waiting in the wings to provide extra cover.

Given how important Eriksen has been to United this season, however, replacing him with players not suited to or ready for the task could cause some serious problems. So should the club look into the transfer market for a replacement?

Youri Tielemans is a name that has frequently been linked with United. The Leicester midfielder has only six months left on his contract at the King Power Stadium and could be available for a bargain in January, though with the transfer window closing soon, it may be difficult to persuade Brendan Rodgers to let the midfielder leave given his importance to the club’s survival.
