Newcastle make three late moves as Jonjo Shelvey releases an emotional farewell letter.

While Toon fans were celebrating a place in the Carabao Cup final, Newcastle United announced a trio of late departures before last night’s 11 pm deadline.

Jonjo Shelvey joined Nottingham Forest on a permanent deal, signing a two-and-a-half year deal at the City Ground, Karl Darlow signed for Hull City on loan for the remainder of the season and U21 star Jay Turner-Cooke left to join League Two side Tranmere Rovers on loan.

Sadly, there were no incomings in the final few hours of deadline day, but we did seal deals for Anthony Gordon and Harrison Ashby, with both unveiled at St James’ Park prior to last night’s semi-final win over Southampton.

One player who also took to the field was Jonjo Shelvey. He was given a brilliant reception as he waved farewell and has since issued an open letter to fans after his seven-year stint at the club came to an end.

Here’s what he wrote in a brilliant goodbye message on NUFC.co.uk:
