Mason Greenwood has been exonerated of all criminal charges.

Mason Greenwood, a Manchester United attacker, has been cleared of assault, attempted rape, and coercive control charges.

According to The Sun, the English wide-attacker has been cleared of all wrongdoing almost exactly one year after he was first arrested.

The 21-year-old was scheduled to go on trial in November for the aforementioned crimes. Greater Manchester Police have recently confirmed that the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has decided to drop all charges against him.

“The investigation team has remained in regular contact with the legal team, providing any updates of note, and so understand the rationale for the discontinuation of proceedings at this stage, and that this decision has not been taken lightly,” said Chief Superintendent Michaela Kerr, GMP’s Head of Public Protection, in a statement.

“Despite the media’s and the public’s interest in this case, we have decided not to comment further.”

The alleged offenses are related to an incident that occurred over a year ago with a female. Police were quick to act after evidence of wrongdoing appeared to be leaked on social media, before Manchester United suspended the winger.

Because this is a breaking news story, it is unclear what the latest developments may mean for Greenwood’s playing career. The club has yet to respond.
