Liverpool closed a “tremendous piece of business” with a £120k-per-week star – CBS journalist

According to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, Liverpool pulled off a “tremendous bit of business” by bringing in Cody Gakpo during the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old had been in excellent form for PSV Eindhoven in the 18 months leading up to his move to Anfield, but he has yet to hit the ground running in his new surroundings.

Cody Gakpo is the latest Liverpool news.
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool won the race to sign Gakpo and paid PSV a fee ranging between £35 million and £45 million for his services.

After previously being linked with Manchester United, the Netherlands international has signed a contract worth £120,000 per week until the summer of 2028.

Gakpo earned his move to Jurgen Klopp’s side by scoring 21 goals and providing 15 assists in 47 appearances in 2021/22, winning the Dutch Cup along the way.

And a stunning return of 30 goal contributions in 24 outings in the first half of the current campaign meant Liverpool couldn’t wait until the summer to secure his signature.

However, Klopp will want to see a tangible return on his investment sooner rather than later, especially given his side’s struggles on the pitch this season.

What has Jacobs said about Gakpo?

Jacobs has told GMS that he still believes signing Gakpo was a significant coup for Liverpool and that they managed to sign ‘one of the best players from the World Cup’.

He said: “We mustn’t forget with Liverpool that they began the window with a £40 million purchase of Cody Gakpo, which, for January, is a tremendous bit of business.

“And when the window first opened, that fan base and football club were very excited because they felt they had a head start on Manchester United, who never bid but brought in one of the best players from the World Cup.”

How has Gakpo been performing?
Gakpo has made five appearances for a struggling Liverpool side so far but has yet to score a goal or provide an assist for his teammates.

And the 6 foot 3 versatile stars admitted to being sloppy in his debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
