The report explains how Napoli feels about permanently signing Ndombele from Spurs.

In his latest column for Napoli Magazine, Emanuele Cammaroto discussed Tanguy Ndombele’s future, implying that Napoli may look for a discount on the player in the summer despite the pre-arranged fee in the loan move.

Ndombele moved to Tottenham from Lyon in the summer of 2019 for a club-record fee of around £63 million (Sky Sports). With such a high price tag came high expectations, but unfortunately, the Frenchman has never lived up to them.

The 26-year-old made 91 Spurs appearances, scoring ten goals and providing nine assists (Transfermarkt). He fell out of favor with Antonio Conte and was loaned back to Lyon last year before being sent on loan to Napoli for the 2022/23 season.

Napoli, according to Il Mattino (via Forza Azzurri), wants to make the move permanent. Foot Mercato reported in mid-January that talks between the Serie A club and Spurs were scheduled.

Journalist Ben Jacobs told the Last Word on Spurs podcast that it is still uncertain whether the option to buy clause as part of the loan arrangement, thought to be set at €30 million (£26.4 million), will be activated by Napoli.

The latest from Cammaroto suggests Napoli is looking to “confirm the current group” of players ahead of next season and is “waiting for this second part of the season to draw conclusions” on Ndombele in particular.

Cammaroto adds that whatever happens, Napoli “does not intend to pay €25m” to Spurs to make Ndombele a permanent signing and could be “thinking of asking for a discount” on the player. There is also a chance that “the loan could be renewed,” rather than a full transfer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think as long as we get at least £20 million for Ndombele we should just cut our losses and let him go. He’s never going to work out for us, and we just need to cash in while we can.
