Top, the chairman of Leicester City, responds to criticism in the “strongest possible” way.

This week, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha effectively wiped out £194 million in debt at City, which Brendan Rodgers believes is a strong show of commitment in the wake of fan concern.

“It’s unbelievable. There are excellent club owners all over the world, but having worked with Khun Top, I can say that they not only have a genuine love of the game, but also a genuine love of the club and its supporters.

“What they have given to this community, Khun Vichai and Khun Top, and the continuation of that with this gesture. It’s more than a gesture; what they’ve done is incredible.

“It is the strongest commitment possible there can be. When there are questions asked about the board and their commitment, that in itself is an answer to every question that has ever been put to them.

“He is an amazing guy and I will say the same when I leave here. They are a remarkable family who has their heart on everything best for Leicester City.”

This has been the most difficult campaign of Rodgers’ tenure at City, with a winless start putting huge pressure on his position. But he says he has never felt anything other than support from the chairman.

“I never felt a waver from when I first came in,” he said. “Of course, this season has been a huge challenge but I have never felt anything but support.

“I am lucky Top knows the game. He knows football, he knows the situation, the injuries, and everything that’s been thrown at us.

“I have felt privileged from the day I came in here to have felt that trust from him and the board to get the job done. They have always entrusted me with that and hopefully most of the time here I have delivered, and I aim to do that going forward.

“Any headlines about crisis talks, meeting the owner, or whatever else are the same whether we win or lose. We discuss the club, the team, social life, and other topics, but I know I have his support.

“I don’t need to be reassured. Hopefully, in the second half of the season, we can show more of our true selves, bring back some players, and reward him.”
