Tottenham’s star player is set to return to the club as

According to Football Insider, Sergio Reguilon is set to return to Tottenham in the summer, with the club facing even more difficulty in securing a top-tier fee.

The 26-year-old Spanish left-back has spent the season on loan at Atletico Madrid after Antonio Conte deemed him surplus to requirements.

Reguilon, on the other hand, has had a miserable season in which injury and poor form have limited him to just five appearances and 98 minutes of first-team action.

He is now set to return to his parent club Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season, with his future uncertain.

At the end of August, the defender agreed to terms on a season-long loan with the Spanish heavyweights, but no buy option was included in the agreement.

It is believed that Atletico will not seek to convert Reguilon’s loan into a permanent agreement.

There were high hopes at both the Spanish club and Spurs that the former Real Madrid star could rekindle his career in his homeland and thus increase his market value.

However, he arrived with an injury and has struggled to be anything other than a bystander this season.

He received more criticism after being sent off after only 22 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Almeria last month.

Reguilon has been on the bench for all three league games since his return, as well as an unused substitute in two Copa Del Rey games, with Reinildo Mandava now firmly ahead of him in the Metropolitano Stadium pecking order.

Tottenham’s first-choice left-sided defenders in Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 system are Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon.
