Tottenham Hotspur’s youth academy has recently produced some promising young players. While some players have had great success after breaking into the first team, others have not been as fortunate.
Brandon Bryan-Waugh is the most recent player to leave the club without being offered a professional contract.
Bryan-Waugh has already joined League Two side Colchester United after being refused a contract by Tottenham, according to club expert and insider John Wenham.
The versatile defender had been a member of the club’s academy for two years but had yet to make the senior team.
“Exclusive – Understand Academy year 2 defender, Brandon Bryan-Waugh (18) will not be offered a professional deal at #thfc and has already joined up with league two Colchester United.”
The news of Bryan-Waugh’s departure will come as a disappointment to many Tottenham fans who had hoped that the youngster would one day break into the first team. However, it is not uncommon for young players to leave top-flight clubs in search of regular first-team football elsewhere.
One academy player who has recently broken into Tottenham’s first team is Oliver Skipp. The midfielder was given a chance to impress his manager after injuries to Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma, and he has certainly taken that opportunity with both hands.
Skipp has been extremely impressive in his performances for Tottenham this season, and his success is a testament to the importance of giving young players a chance to shine.
In the case of Brandon Bryan-Waugh, he will now have the opportunity to continue his development at Colchester United.
