‘Perfect’: Newcastle told to sign player who reportedly wants £240,000 per week

Darren Bent has said on talkSPORT that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United should sign Mason Mount from Graham Potter’s Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker has said that Mount would be perfect for Newcastle.

The talkSPORT pundit has outlined the attributes of the 24-year-old England international midfielder that would make him perfect for Newcastle.

According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle is competing with Liverpool and Manchester United for the signature of Mount.

The Daily Mail has claimed that Mount earns £80,000 per week as salary and is looking for £240,000 per week as his wages.

Former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay the Englishman a weekly salary of £170,000.

DARREN BENT ON CHELSEA’S MASON MOUNT TO NEWCASTLE UNITED

Bent said about Mount, as transcribed by GBB: “I’m surprised Newcastle aren’t heavily in for him. He’d be perfect for them.

“If you’re trying to get to the next level he’s exactly what you’re looking for. He’s young, he’s English, he’s an international, he’s played in big, big games, won big trophies, been a player of the year at his club.

“If you’re trying to build and attract players to your club, you don’t go and buy someone whose 28/29 that’s maybe in between whether ‘are they going to go on to the next level or are they going to start to fall away?’ He’s in his prime.”

Could a summer transfer happen?

In our view, Newcastle United could be able to sign Mason Mount from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer transfer window, but only if they end up in the top four this season.

Mount is used to challenging for the Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League.

With teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United also keen on the 24-year-old, we do not think that Newcastle would be overly appealing to Mount if they are not in the UEFA Champions League next season.
