Report: Forest already make first move to sign 27-year-old, he’s available for free this summer

Nottingham Forest has already held talks over the possibility of signing Alejandro Grimaldo during the summer, according to The Athletic. The Benfica star will be out of the contract when the season ends and several clubs are looking at him.

Grimaldo has been a wanted man for quite some time. Arsenal and Newcastle have made attempts to sign him before and it’s not clear whether or not they will return.

Interest comes from all over Europe at the moment. Nice has made an offer to the defender, whilst Real Sociedad, Valencia, and Dortmund are all keen on signing him.

Grimaldo is a wonderfully talented player. He has been with Benfica since leaving the Barcelona academy in 2016. Grimaldo has made 291 appearances for the Portuguese outfit and recently helped them reach the last eight of the Champions League.

Now, his time in Portugal could be drawing to a close. He’s set to walk away on a free transfer and it appears that Forest and Fulham have already made attempts to bring him to the Premier League.

Grimaldo has been called into the Spain squad ahead of the international break later this month. He will hope to collect his first caps in games against Norway and Scotland.

Talks held between Forest and Grimaldo

This would be a remarkable signing if Forest can get it over the line. Despite playing as a left-back all season, Grimaldo has scored five times and claimed a staggering 13 assists.

Grimaldo is a wanted man. Signing him won’t come easy for a club like Forest and firstly they have to make sure that they remain as a Premier League outfit for the 2023/24 campaign.

Forest must look to sign quality over quantity if they remain in the top flight. Getting a settled squad together will be crucial ahead of next season and Grimaldo would be a quality addition.

Talks have already taken place so that is a positive at least. Whether the Reds can convince him that Forest is the place for him to further his career remains to be seen.
