Alan Brazil says he has been told that Tottenham Hotspur has approached Burnley boss, Vincent Kompany, to be their next manager, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (13/03/23).

Antonio Conte is still the man in Tottenham’s dugout, but there has been a lot of noise about his future and who could replace the trophy-winning coach in the summer.

That noise went up a few levels when Spurs were booted out of the Champions League to AC Milan on Wednesday night, although, a much-needed win over Nottingham Forest was posted at the weekend.

Even though Spurs are sitting fourth in the Premier League table and they are four clear of fifth-placed Newcastle United, who beat Wolves 2-1 on Sunday.

There is still a feeling and the big question as to whether Conte is the man for the long term?! The Italian isn’t known for this kind of project, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he does leave when the season is up.

And if that does happen, then talkSPORT presenter and former striker Alan Brazil had a surprise name that is possibly being looked at by those in the boardroom at Hotspur Way.

“Here’s a little one for you,” said Brazil. “I can’t confirm if this is 100% or not. I was told that Vincent Kompany was approached by Spurs. I can’t tell you (who told me).

“What’s more important? Who told me or is it true? I thought ‘crikey’. Maybe because he has run away with the Championship. Brilliant.”

KOMPANY TO TOTTENHAM A RISK

A manager of Kompany’s ilk is needed by Spurs, but going for the former Manchester City defender himself would be a huge risk.

At 36, he is still fairly young and trying to work up the management ladder. Perhaps what has happened to Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard in recent times is a warning.

But, either way, if the Spurs do replace Conte, then going for someone of the profile of a Kompany wouldn’t be a bad idea.
