Simon Jordan has warned Crystal Palace not to hire former Everton manager Frank Lampard, who was a “disaster” towards the end of his reign at the Toffees.
Lampard lost his job at Goodison Park in January after less than a year in charge, leaving his role with the club second from the bottom of the table.
And after Palace sacked manager Patrick Vieira following a poor run of form, Jordan has urged the Eagles to steer clear of Lampard, who has been linked with the vacancy.
Speaking live on talkSPORT on Friday (17 March), in a clip posted on Twitter (38s) Jordan said: “Whether they’ve got someone lined up or not if you’ve got an international break for a couple of weeks, you do get the opportunity to just pause for thought.
“They’ve made a big decision, they’ve pulled the trigger. The next decision is, who holds the fort? ‘We need nine more points. We need nine points to stay in this division, how are we going to get them out of 11/12 games?’
“If you start veering into the territory of people like Lampard and Gerrard, well, Lampard was interviewed by Palace a couple of years ago. They didn’t want him then, so what’s changed?
“He would have got Everton relegated, he was a disaster at Everton towards the end. Gerrad was a disaster at Aston Villa. Why would either one of those guys be a fix?”
One more chance?
Jordan certainly has a point when it comes to former England midfielder Lampard, who has been sacked by two Premier League clubs – Everton and Chelsea – in his brief managerial career so far.
He left the Toffees in a dire situation at the beginning of the year, picking up just 15 points from 20 matches as the club sat above only Southampton, and only on goal difference.
New boss Sean Dyche has helped steady the ship somewhat at Goodison Park, with Everton now 15th in the Premier League table on 25 points.
A Premier League legend on the pitch for Chelsea, Lampard has endured a difficult time as a manager so far, but his links to the Crystal Palace vacancy are not at all surprising given the constant managerial changes in the league.
The Eagles let go of Vieira with the club seemingly safe in 12th place, but their 27 points mean they are just three clear from the drop.
