If rumour is true, Spurs could now replace Fabio Paratici with one of Europe’s best

Tottenham fans may have heard the rumors about Mauricio Pochettino – if they are true, it could see Paul Mitchell return to N17 in place of Fabio Paratici.

WHAT’S THE STORY?

Well – according to the Guardian – Pochettino would like to replace Antonio Conte at the end of the season.

It comes amid doubts over the future of Paratici as well after the Italian was handed a 30-month ban from operating in his home country by the Italian Football Federation. It could soon extend to English football as well.

Calciomercato believes Tottenham‘s Director of Football could also leave with Conte.

If Paratici does depart, then a return for Pochettino may also see Mitchell replace the Italian as Tottenham’s Sporting Director.

The 41-year-old has forged a reputation for himself as one of the best negotiators in Europe, signing the likes of Sadio Mane for Southampton before finding gems in Dele Alli, Heung-min Son, and Toby Alderweireld for Spurs.

Mitchell has now decided to leave his role at Monaco for family reasons, as he is keen to return to England.

He told French news outlet Nice-Matin: “I have spent a lot of time away from home and my loved ones in recent years. I feel that the mission I had, which was to rebuild the sports project, has been fulfilled.”

So, where does Pochettino come into this? Let’s take a look.

POCHETTINO RETURNING TO TOTTENHAM COULD SEE MITCHELL FOLLOW

Well, Mitchell joined the Argentine at Southampton – finding the likes of Mane and Victor Wanyama – before following him to Tottenham.

Pochettino seems to hold Mitchell in very high regard, telling the Guardian that he was upset after the transfer negotiator chose to leave N17 for Germany back in 2016.

The South American said: “I feel very disappointed with his decision. It’s his personal choice. We have a relationship from Southampton and I feel very disappointed, but when a person takes a personal decision, what can I do?”

With uncertainty in the managerial role as well as in the Director of Football role at Tottenham, Daniel Levy could kill two birds with one stone by rehiring Pochettino, as it may lure Mitchell to north London as Paratici’s replacement.

Be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as the Telegraph believes Conte is set to leave Spurs this week.
