Report: Moyes wants to sign ‘chaotic’ 12-cap int’l striker from the Championship for £20m

David Moyes wants Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres at West Ham to put the pressure on Gianluca Scamacca.

That’s according to a report from The Sun which claim that West Ham United manager David Moyes has performed several scouting missions on Viktor Gyokeres, and has watched him intently for Coventry City.

The West Ham boss allegedly wants the hard-working 24-year-old forward at the London Stadium in the summer transfer window to keep Gianluca Scamacca on his toes and to push him to his limits.

Scamacca is being heavily linked with a move away from the club. However, it seems as though Moyes wants to keep the Italian and get the best out of him by bringing in some genuine competition.

The 12-capped Sweden international left Brighton to join Coventry back in 2021, and he has gone on to be a big hit at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

It seems as though the forward’s form this season has caught the eye of the Hammers…

West Ham eyeing Viktor Gyokere’s swoop

The Sun reckons that Moyes is a huge fan of the 24-year-old forward, and has performed several personal checks on him. It is suggested that Coventry will be prepared to do business for around £20 million.

Gyokeres has been in superb form for the Sky Blues so far this season with 19 goals and eight assists in 39 appearances to his name (Transfermarkt).

He has 40 goals and 13 assists in 105 career games for Coventry under his belt (Transfermarkt).

Gyokeres is a very hard-working forward and is always willing to run the channels – something that obviously appeals to Moyes.

The Swede is very strong with both feet and is very good at playing with his back to the goal and turning defenders. His playing style is somewhat ‘chaotic’ according to Scout Football – remind you of anyone?

Maybe Moyes has hopes for the Coventry City striker to be his Michail Antonio Mark II.

I think that Gyokeres would be a pretty good addition for us, albeit not a spectacular one. It is worth remembering that succeeding in the Championship doesn’t mean that Premier League stardom beckons.

In my opinion, £20 million is far too much money to be paying for Viktor Gyokeres, and there is definitely better value out there for West Ham if Moyes is willing to go looking for it.
