James Maddison told Newcastle United position as Leicester City linked with Championship star

Latest Leicester City news from LeicestershireLive as the Foxes look ahead to the summer transfer window

Here are the latest Leicester City headlines on Sunday, March 26.

Maddison told Newcastle’s position

James Maddison has been told where he would fit into Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United team with the Magpies reportedly “looking at it”.

The England international has been an instrumental figure in Fox’s midfield over the past few seasons. Maddison has scored 42 goals and contributed to 30 assists across almost five years in the Premier League since joining Norwich City in 2018.

And the 26-year-old’s impressive performances since his arrival at the King Power Stadium have seen him linked to Premier League rivals including Newcastle with football journalist Dean Jones, claiming that “there is a chance” a move will happen.

City ‘monitoring’ Coventry star

Leicester City has been linked with Coventry City forward Viktor Gyokeres with the Foxes reportedly ‘monitoring’ the 24-year-old.

The Swedish striker has enjoyed a stellar campaign for the Sky Blues having scored 18 Championship goals in 38 appearances this season. His performances for Mark Robins’s team have kept Coventry in contention for the playoffs as they currently sit three points off the Championship top-six.

Gyokeres arrived at the CBS Arena on loan from Brighton in January 2021 before joining Coventry on a permanent deal the following summer.

Unwanted goalkeeping dilemma

Brendan Rodgers will have to solve goalkeeping issues when the Foxes return from the international break. 25-year-old Danish keeper Daniel Iversen made his City debut in Leicester’s 1-1 draw against Brentford before the international break.

Iversen’s first start for the club came after Danny Ward, Fox’s regular No 1 this season, was dropped with the Welsh international struggling to fill the gloves left by the departure of Kasper Schmeichel to Nice last summer.

Key hire ahead of the summer window

Leicester City has hired former Nice midfielder Jean-Paul Kalala to scout for new players in France.

Kalala, 41, came through the ranks at Nice as a player and had a respectable career in England, counting Grimsby Town, Oldham Athletic, and Yeovil Town among the clubs he played for.

According to his LinkedIn page, he is now scouting for Leicester City, working as a senior international talent spotter based in France. He joins from Queens Park Rangers, where he spent three-and-a-half years in a similar role.
